View Full Version : Strategies for dealing with spam?

Seems like this idiot posting things for sale that always has his name
starting with A but everything else the same has taken over the group.
Anyone got a strategy for filtering his crap out, so no time is wasted on
it?
I have to admit that it is starting to **** me off! :-)

I just block anything from news.usenetmonster.com, which is where it
is coming from, until they get it stopped, which they are supposedly
working on.

Its kind of a brutal blunt instrument, but notice that in the "name"
position is not a name, but an e.mail address that always ends in dot com.
In Outlook Express, filtering out ".com" takes out a few legitimate posters,
but all of the spam.

hmmm, I'm not seeing it. I guess Marton Hotze's server
already filters such obvious junk.

How about a ping from Martin, I may have to start using his server, but I
lost the contact information in a recent crash.
Check the return address, and throw out the junk.

Thanks; I didn't think of that. That should do it!

Yes. I use gnus, and killed it with a regexp on the author in a few
seconds.
Have no idea how to kill it with a windoze reader.
